UFC fighter, Conor McGregor and his entourage were caught going BERSERK at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, NY yesterday. McGregor was then arrested later that night after his plane was grounded attempting to leave New York. He was charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief.
McGregor can be seen in eyewitness videos attempting to throw a barrier at the bus and then proceeding to throw a wheeled dolly through a bus window. The bus was leaving the Barclay Center after a Press Conference for UFC 223, the fight that was scheduled for this weekend. A bus window was smashed open and two UFC fighters were injured, both of who were scheduled to fight this weekend.
Many of the fights as part of the UFC 223 have been cancelled since this and MMA fans are unsure of what will and will not be happening.
UFC President, Dana White, spoke out after the incident stating:
"This is the last stunt on Earth we would ever pull. I mean, this is embarrassing for the sport and obviously for the UFC. This is the furthest thing from a stunt."
The incident left fighters, Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg, injured. Michael Chiesa was then ruled out of UFC 223 due to cuts sustained from McGregor.
MMA Journalist, Ariel Helwani, has been keeping fans updated on this story through Twitter:
Conor McGregor and members of his team showed up at the Barclays Center at the very end of media day moments ago. There was an altercation with some of the departing fighters who are competing on the card.— Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) April 5, 2018
I’ve seen video shot by fighters in the van. Very clear Conor is telling someone to get out of the van before being pulled away by security. Khabib and his team were in that particular van.— Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) April 5, 2018
Ray Borg is at a local hospital to get his eyes checked, sources confirm. He was sitting next to Chiesa and glass apparently hit his eye, sources say. Borg going to the hospital first reported by Combate.— Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) April 6, 2018
This story continues to develop as McGregor was released from the NYPD on bail and is attempting to be cleared to fly back to Ireland.
