Florida Man Dressed As Jack Sparrow Dies While Paddleboarding

Florida Man, Joshua Hensley, was known to his community in Crystal River as "Captain Jack Sparrow"! He frequently dressed up like the Pirates of the Caribbean character and would spend much time on the water up there. On Saturday, September 14th, Hensley went out paddle boarding to watch the sunset, but never returned.

The Citrus Country Sheriff's Office and local park rangers grew concerned when they noticed his car had stayed in the park overnight. Authorities found Hensley's paddle board in King's Bay on Monday and a few hours later had located his body as well. The Citrus County Sheriff's Office did say they are still investigating, but also offered their sympathies to Hensley's family.

“We offer our deepest condolences to Joshua’s family and friends in this difficult time. Captain Jack’ was a beloved figure in the community and will be missed.”

Hensley owned his own paddle-boarding company called Big Foot Paddle Boards. His company's Facebook page has since become a place for many to leave a tribute to Hensley and his role in the community as Captain Jack.

“We will sure miss seeing him around the waters making sure everyone has a good time. Crystal River has lost a good one!”

“Captain Jack was loved by many and he was so good to all the kids!”

“Thank you Captain Jack (Joshua) for the amazing memories, for always stopping and doing tricks for my grandkids. The river will not be the same. Thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of this amazing man. RIP Captain..”
