Man and Woman Arrested for Aiming Rifles at South Florida Daycare

West Kendall, FL - A man and woman were arrested after they aimed rifles at a South Florida daycare during a photo shoot on Monday.

Authorities say police responded to a call shortly before 4 pm and arrived to find a man, later identified as 57-year-old Miguel Ruiz, kneeling in a firing position and aiming a loaded rifle at the entrance of Devon Aire Kiddy College.

A woman, identified as 50-year-old Estrella Maria Pereira, was taking photos of Ruiz as he posed with the rifle.

The daycare, located in a West Kendall strip mall, was immediately placed on lockdown.

Witnesses reported seeing the pair removing two rifles from their car and aiming them upwards.

According to police, witnesses also observed Ruiz and Pereira circling the parking lot before Ruiz allegedly pointed the rifle in all directions, including toward the daycare.

Surveillance footage corroborated the witness's account.

Both Ruiz and Pereira were arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and exhibiting a firearm on school property.

As of Tuesday, Ruiz and Pereira were being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on $10,000 bonds.
