Fish Recap Gm 2 MIA v NYM: Fish Allow 5 in 1st; Come Up Short of Comeback

After The Marlins had a Runner in Scoring Position in every inning and leaving 14 Fish on base, the Marlins fell to the New York Mets 5-4 in Game 2 of the 3 game series. The Marlins have to bring in more of those runs as they aren't a big power team and will depend on small-ball, timely hitting and smart base running.

After Jose Urena gave up 5 runs in the 1st, the Marlins chances looked bleak. Again with mostly singles, they were able to drive in 4 runs. Starlin Castro hit his 2nd Home Run of the Season in 5th bringing the Fish within 3. Louis Brinson and Peter O'Brien had a pair of RBI in the 7th brought the Marlins within 1.

With the tying run on 2nd and the winning run on 1st base, and 1 out Miguel Rojas hit a line drive to the Shortstop and Brinson was caught off the base with an untimely slip on his move to 3rd base.

Disregarding the bad top of the 1st inning, Marlins preformed well with 16 hits. They are going to have to turn these base runners into runs if they expect to win these close games. You can bet leaving 14 players on base is something Mattingly is expecting his young team to fix if they want to compete in 2019.
