Tonight is the NBA lottery. The one forgone conclusion is which ever team secures the 1st pick will be Zion Williamson. Zion Williamson ignited interest in college basketball with his athleticism and play on the court while at Duke. Duke was knocked out of the NCAA Tournament in the Elite Eight in 2019. Zion was already crowned as the jewel of the 2019 NBA draft.
The New York Knicks, The Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Phoenix Suns all have a 14% chance of getting that coveted number 1 pick in tonight NBA Draft Lottery. If either the Suns or Cavs get the pick, it would be disastrous for the league. Even though the coverage will still be there in Cleveland or Phoenix, it would affect how much interest the public keeps in his journey through the league. Especially in those small market and historically bad franchises.
The New York Knicks have big plans this offseason including Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, 1st the Knicks want is Zion. Zion will be the biggest star in the league playing in the Big Apple. If the Knicks can secure KD and Kyrie then they are almost guarennteed succuss for the foreseeable future or maybe they explode, either way its a great story in lots more interest. The Knicks being relevent is great for the league, and they haven't had that for almost 20 years.
As a Heat Fan, I dislike the Knicks with every being in my fiber, but even I can see Adam Silver praying for the Knicks to secure Zion, and not to be lost in the midwest or the desert.
