Newcomer Marte's Go-Ahead HR in 8th propelled Fish past Jays in Game 1


Barely a Marlins for 24 hours and Starling Marte is already making waves in Miami. Marte's Go-ahead Home Run in the 8th propelled the Marlins to a 3-2 win over the Blue Jays. Marte was the main piece involved in a trade between the Marlins and the Diamondbacks Monday afternoon. Marte has been a 20-20 player the last two years and the Marlin's hope he can bring some runs to this line-up.

After starter Eliser Hernandez left eh game in the 3rd inning with a sore right lat muscle and the bullpen stepped up with Smith, Bleier, Hoyt, and Kentzler allowing just 4 hits in 7 innings. Along with Marte Jon Berti hit a home run and recently returning Garret Cooper contributed with an RBI double.

Today the Marlins will have Young stud Sixto Sanchez (1-0, 2.25 ERA) against Hyun Jin Ryu (2-1, 2.92 ERA), Sixto is fresh off a great outing against the 1st place Ray. striking out 10 in 7 innings.
